The North End Crime Watch was awarded a $1,000 grant from Walmart to buy coats, mittens, hats, scarves, blankets for needy children in the community.  Similar items from the community were donated for this event. On December 5, 2009 the North End Crime Watch & Community Development along with the Westerly Police Department distributed the following at the Jonnycake Center: 80 coats, 23 hats, 39 pairs of gloves, 35 blankets, 15 pairs of socks, 26 sweatshirts, 15 pairs of boots. David Panciera (Oral History Project Coordinator) informed 20 Westerly Historical Society members with a power point presentation of old maps and photos of Westerly in the late 1800's through the early 1900's. Also, members listened to excerpts of interviews with Westerly old time residents.

Members of the North End Crime Watch have had the opportunity to present our history, projects and principles of forming a crime watch with three new crime watch/neighborhood associations: State Street Neighborhood Watch Association in Westerly, RI, Wilcox East Neighborhood Association in Westerly, RI and in the Summit Ave. neighborhood of Providence.

The Jonnycake Center is running critically low on their pantry supplies.  The demand is 3 times what it was last year at this time. If you would like to donate any non-perishable food, cash donations, gift certificates,  please call them at (401) 377-8069 or bring items to the Jonnycake Center at 23 Industrial Drive.
